Information about Reopening

Dear Friends,

I wanted to touch base with you about the status of reopening Milford United Methodist Church in light of Pike County’s movement to the Green phase of reopening. We have assembled a Return Team Task Force composed of a variety of folks from our congregation who began to meet this past week to begin working on a reopening plan, which then needs to be approved by both the Church Council and the Greater New Jersey Annual Conference Staff before we can begin meeting in our sanctuary again. There are many things we need to take into consideration before we make that jump. Just because states are reopening does not mean COVID-19 has gone away, and indoor worship services are one of the highest risk activities for spreading infection.

We know many of you are anxious to return, and some of you have said you want to continue worshipping online. At this point, we do not have a specific date that we will reopen, but will have a several phase reopening plan and will keep you informed every step of the way. I also want to assure you that when we do return, we will keep streaming our services for those who are most vulnerable and not completely comfortable returning.

The Task Force determined that the first step towards creating a plan is to hear your comfort levels about returning to regular church activities. There will be a survey sent out early next week, and we ask that you fill it out as soon as you receive it. .

This Sunday, June 21st we will have our regular Zoom and Facebook Live service. The following two weeks will be slightly different, as I will be on renewal leave from June 27-July 11. Bishop John Schol has recommended that all clergy take two weeks as renewal due to the unusual circumstances surrounding the pandemic. More information about the worship services for June 28th and July 5th will be shared with you next week. Please stay tuned!

In the United Methodist Church we follow three general rules:

  1. Do Good
  2. Do No Harm
  3. Stay in Love with God

We are taking time to figure out how to “do no harm” by continuing to flatten the curve of COVID-19 and to ensure that no member or visitor to Milford UMC becomes infected with COVID-19. The Task Force asks that you be patient as we prayerfully discern our way forward towards reopening our church building. Please be in prayer with us.

If you have any questions, please contact us.

In Christ’s Love,

Pastor Kaleigh
